Chronically Strong presents QPR Suicide Prevention Training Delivered by Wellspan Health.
Chronically Strong is committed to bringing education to our communities that focus on mental health awareness and suicide prevention. Join us as we host this QPR: Suicide Prevention Training, delivered by Wellspan Health-Philhaven.
Just as CPR-Training is needed to help save a life, it is just as important to also learn how to help save a person’s life who is experiencing an invisible illness or suicidal thoughts. Suicide is the 12th leading cause of death in the US. It is the 11th cause of death in PA. In 2020, there were an estimated 1.20 MILLION suicide attempts with 45,979 Americans who died by suicide. That same year, for every 100,000 PA residents, there were 15.4 suicide deaths. The national average was 11.
These statistics can cause a person to feel helpless to make a difference, but with QPR Suicide Prevention Certification Training, you can be prepared to save someone’s life.
This 3.5-hour training focuses on the evidenced-based Suicide Prevention training developed by the QPR Institute.
The course focuses on training individuals to be “Gatekeepers” or someone in a position to recognize a crisis and the warning signs that someone may be contemplating suicide. Gatekeepers can be anyone but include parents, friends, neighbors, teachers, ministers, doctors, nurses, office supervisors, squad leaders, foremen, police officers, advisors, caseworkers, firefighters and many others who are strategically positioned to recognize and refer someone at risk of suicide.
QPR Gatekeeper Training teaches you:

If you are within the first year of having lost someone you love to suicide, please be aware that this training is very in-depth. While there will be a couple of trained volunteers to meet with you should you need to during or after the meeting, this training may bring up feelings that you may not have known that you have. It is important to know that while we will offer compassionate listening, this is not intended to take the place of professional therapy and/or counseling.
