Body type is not physical appearance
“My thighs and hips are unshapely.” “Oh!! I am gaining a lot on my shoulders.” “ How do I work on my limbs and belly?” These statements can often be heard while admiring yourself in front of a mirror in a flashy outfit or trying to accessorize yourself while leaving for a party. We are all aware that our body types and shapes are varied; therefore, understanding your anatomy is a prerequisite for weight loss.
Body structure should not be confused with physical appearance as the latter can change with dietary habits, lifestyle, and workouts. Nutritionists and body trainers also give suggestions based on the type of body and metabolic rate of a person.
Varied anatomy and ways to identify yours
Some have muscular bodies, some are lean, and some have flabs while some have medium frames. Understanding what body type or shape you have is a necessary requirement to effectively plan the appropriate diet you should be following. Daily exercise and various diet plans have a different impact based on your body type.
Ectomorph
If your body is lean, long, and lanky with a smaller bone structure then you belong to the ectomorph category. Individuals in this category have difficulty gaining weight and should therefore consume a diet rich in carbs and proteins. They should get at least 50-60 percent of their calories from carbohydrates, 25 percent from proteins, and 25 percent from fats.
Endomorph
People who fall in the endomorph category have more body fat. Women are curvaceous while men are stocky. They possess heavier hips, thighs, and bellies.
To cut down weight endomorphs should consume lean proteins, healthy fats, and complex carbs. At the same time, high-intensity exercise and strength training can help in weight reduction.
Mesomorph
People in the mesomorph category have medium body frames and are muscular. These people possess a rectangular body frame and are both strong and solid. Furthermore, mesomorph women also have hourglass figures.
Mesomorph diets should contain more proteins and fewer carbs. Choose fruits and veggies over processed foods. Whole grains such as quinoa, brown rice, and oatmeal should be preferred.
Benefits of following a diet according to your body type
It is important to identify your body structure if you want to achieve your ideal body type. Following a diet based on your body type is healthy and will allow you to lose weight more effectively and effortlessly. The journey to weight loss can be a smooth process without needing to starve yourself or follow a strict and expensive diet.
