What are the benefits of Reiki?

You experience numerous benefits when receiving Reiki and practicing self-Reiki. Read more below.

1. Increased relaxation after or during Reiki treatment

A primary benefit of receiving or learning Reiki is deep relaxation. Reiki activates your parasympathetic nervous system and induces a relaxation response. When you are relaxed you heal:

  • spiritually
  • physically
  • emotionally
  • mentally

Reiki treatment helps you manage:

  • stress
  • anxiety
  • grief and depression
  • as well as the associated physical effects of these conditions.

It’s common and beneficial to fall asleep when receiving Reiki.

Sometimes your thoughts about a situation, rather than the situation itself, are what causes you stress. Often during or after a Reiki treatment, you think differently about the situation that’s challenging you.

Life also presents stressful circumstances. During these times receiving or practicing self-Reiki reduces your stress response. Reiki makes you stronger in yourself so you are better able to manage life challenges.

2. During your Reiki treatment you’re connected to yourself and something greater than yourself that you are a part of.

When you are relaxed you experience greater physical, emotional, and mental well-being. When you receive or learn Reiki you access these positive states with greater ease each day.

3. Higher energy levels after a Reiki treatment

When you receive or practice Reiki you have more energy.

Mental and emotional stress and tension leave you feeling tired and depleted. Reiki has the opposite effect. After receiving or learning Reiki you are:

  • energized
  • happier
  • clearer
  • motivated
  • grateful

You’re more connected to life and the wonderful aspects of it.

4. Increased self-awareness during Reiki treatment

As well as a holistic healing system Reiki is a spiritual practice. After receiving or learning Reiki your mind quietens down and you are able to access your intuition. You experience more “flow” in your life and greater periods of gratitude and peace.

You also gain deeper insight into where you are at physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Once you gain insight into your thought and feeling patterns you can gently make changes to those patterns which aren’t benefiting yourself and others. When you receive or learn Reiki, this happens naturally without effort. Wonderful life changes start taking place. This is because Reiki meets your deepest need and guides you to where you need to be.

5. Reduction in physical pain after Reiki treatment

To examine how Reiki can help to alleviate pain let’s compare Reiki to massage. Unlike massages which work to soften tight muscles by a practitioner directly manipulating soft tissue and joints, a Reiki practitioner does not directly manipulate soft tissue or joints.

During a Reiki treatment, a Reiki Master teacher and practitioner gently hold their hands on or over painful areas of your body, unlocking your body’s natural healing ability. Reiki treats the cause of your physical condition, rather than the symptoms.

Reiki is excellent for treating painful conditions that aren’t suitable to be treated with other manual therapies because it is gentle and non-invasive. Reiki has helped people with:

  • chronic fatigue syndrome
  • fibromyalgia
  • stroke

Through self-Reiki practice, you can manage digestive conditions, headaches, lower back pain, and menstrual cramping.

Reiki induces the relaxation response so you are also better able to mentally cope with your pain or discomfort or may view your pain and discomfort differently.
