Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health’s Women & Babies Hospital Ranked Nationally by U.S. News & World Report

Lancaster, Pa. – Penn Medicine Lancaster General

Health’s Women & Babies Hospital once again earned national and statewide recognition from U.S. News & World Report and its Best Hospitals for Maternity Care. The hospital, which is part of the University of Pennsylvania Health System (Penn Medicine), earned the highest available rating of “high performing” and is the only hospital in Lancaster County recognized. This is the highest award a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals for Maternity Care.

U.S. News & World Report released its list of the 2022- 2023 Best Hospitals for Maternity Care on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

In addition, the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, Pennsylvania Hospital and Chester County Hospital were also ranked High-Performing.

U.S. News & World Report reviewed nearly 650 hospitals that provide high-quality labor and delivery services for uncomplicated pregnancies and evaluated how well hospitals perform in childbirth using C-section rates, newborn complication rates, breast milk feeding rates, early elective delivery rates and if a hospital offers vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC). Fewer than half of all hospitals that offer maternity care and participated in the survey received a High Performing designation.

The 95-bed Women & Babies Hospital is Lancaster County’s most comprehensive facility dedicated to women’s health, offering an advanced intensive-care unit for newborns, leading-edge obstetrics, inpatient and outpatient surgeries, and GYN services. More than 4,000 newborns are delivered at Women & Babies each year – more than any other hospital in Lancaster County.

Earlier this year, U.S. News & World Report ranked Lancaster General Hospital among the nation’s top-ranked hospitals in the specialties of Orthopedics (30th tie) and Diabetes & Endocrinology (46th). In addition to the national rankings in Orthopedics and Diabetes & Endocrinology, LGH earned national “high performing” rankings in five specialties: Cardiology, Gastroenterology & GI Surgery, Geriatrics, Urology, and Pulmonology & Lung Surgery.
